Lotte World Mall x StudioXAG: Open Your Dreams

The team at Lotte approached StudioXAG to conceptualise a year’s worth of installations to mark the opening of Lotte World Mall, situated at the base of Lotte World Tower – the largest tower in Korea (and fifth tallest in the world at the time of opening).

We defined an overarching concept that had four seasonal narratives throughout the year. Exploring the theme ‘Open your Dreams’, the installations brought magical mythical creatures to life in the mall to celebrate the grand opening.

Two kinetic window installations were each over 20m long and featured winged unicorns dancing across the skies and dolphins flying over clouds. Giant birds and flamingos soared towards the moon while birds and butterflies orchestrated to the distant sounds of music.

Huge hot air balloons made of butterflies floated through a four floor atrium in-store and birds flew out of a castle in a cloud, carrying musical notes in their beaks.

These intricate installations continued throughout all floors of the mall and intertwined with surreal illustrations by Olaf Hajek.

In addition to creating the concept for a years worth of spectacular installations, StudioXAG created design specification packs for all installations and handcrafted a number of animals in our London studio, sending them out to South Korea as prototypes for the local production team.
