Charlotte Tilbury x StudioXAG: House of Rock ‘n Kohl

StudioXAG created a spatial identity for Charlotte Tilbury’s Make-up House of Rock ‘n Kohl. We designed, built and installed a series of installations to takeover the 100sqm Concept store and 3 windows at the iconic London department store.

Introducing the world’s number one makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury and her glamorous universe to the public, ahead of the launch of her eponymous make up label, which landed in Selfridges three months later.

We interpreted Charlotte’s personal style, which is inspired by a wealth of references from surrealism and glamour to the Art Deco era, and translated these design codes into each space.

The windows consisted of a show-stopping lit typographic sign, a giant shimmering eye installation, and a backstage dressing room scene with make-up spilling across the floor.

In-store, huge lipstick archways framed the in-store space, whilst the walls were adorned with stunning examples of Charlotte Tilbury’s work with well known magazines and photographers, and hand-scrawled with some of Charlotte’s own make-up mantras.

“It’s the first ever beauty festival of its kind!”

The week long beauty festival took place inside the Concept Store with a series of installations to tell the story of Charlotte’s world. We created transformative multifunctional furniture to accommodate the ever changing needs of the space.

Events included psychic sisters lipstick readings, manicures and makeovers at the beauty bar, a series of sold-out panel discussions with the who’s who of the beauty world, make-up bag surgeries and a Cara Delevingne drum solo.

The event also included the unveiling of ‘She’s Light’, an exclusive holographic art collaboration with Kate Moss and Chris Levine which occupied the corner window and was unveiled by Kate Moss herself.

“Charlotte has brought so many cool people together - I think the essence of Charlotte Tilbury’s House of Rock ‘n Kohl event is amazing.”
